Pan Xiaoting is one of the most famous athletes in China. She was born on 25 February 1982 in Luzhou, a city in the province of Shandong. After some time, her family moved to Jining city in the same province where she grew up.  Her exposure to billiards came directly from her father, who loved to play. She had exposure to it since she was three years old. However, as a young child, Pan Xiaoting was very interested in art and eventually graduated from art school in 1997. She decided not to continue with her career and instead started training to play billiards.

Her father had also opened a billiards room opposite to the high school she used to attend. For six months, she decided to train hard. Initially, she learned how to play billiards, then she learned how to play snooker and, finally, nine-ball. Her journey was difficult initially because she did not have the means to travel comfortably. She would often go by train with her father, which used to be very crowded. She even fell sick at one point.

Her hard work and efforts were paying off. From the years 1998 to 2000, she was the Nine Ball tournament champion in China. Pan was only 16 years old when she won her first nine-ball tournament in 1998. Ever since then, Pan has been unstoppable. Her family moved to Shanghai in 2000. This was so that Xiaoting could be able to compete in more tournaments.  She also became a part of the national billiards team. Her career was bright and secure.

What kicked her career off, however, was winning the first place in the 35th World women 9-Ball Championship in Osaka and Japan. However, in 2003, she could not go to Osaka again to defend her title because she was denied the visa to go. Her most significant victory was when she became the first Chinese player to win the World 9-Ball Championship in 2007 that was held in Taiwan. She decided to enroll in the Antai College of Economics & Management in 2010. She also managed to win gold in billiards in the 16th Asian Games in 2011. Since 2011, he has stopped playing as much though she has managed to maintain a high rank over the years. She does compete in tournaments and is part of the national team. Xiaoting also shares a friendly competition with South Korea’s Kim Ga Young with whom she has competed against during the Carolina Women’s Billiard Classic winning 2nd place in 2007.

After finding immense success, Xiaotng’s sphere of influence has increased considerably. She has been steadily using her influence as an athlete to promote billiards as a sport. Pan is a very famous athlete in China for various reasons. Alongside her victories in 9-ball, her beauty, fashion sense, and gentle manner has attracted thousands of fans in China. So much that hordes of fans wishing to take pictures with her and get her autograph are present wherever she goes. She is also a regular guest at various fashion shows because of her beauty. She has also inspired millions of people to become billiard players. Liu ShaSha’s mother saw her interviews, and observing her excellent fashion sense and impeccable manners changed her mind about letting her daughter become a professional nine ballplayer.

Thanks to the rise in popularity of billiards, more and more young talent have emerged. For example, Liu Shahsha is currently ranked among the top 5 worldwide in the World Pool Association’s ladder board. Chinese players have steadily been dominating in billiard tournaments worldwide. In an interview in 2018, she has stated that she now plans to retire and continues practicing and playing to keep her skills alive. After winning many championships, she has changed her view on winning championships. She has stated that now she plays to win, and when she knows she cannot win, she chooses to entertain her audience instead.
