After some time, her family moved to Jining city in the same province where she grew up. Her exposure to billiards came directly from her father, who loved to play. She had exposure to it since she was three years old. However, as a young child, Pan Xiaoting was very interested in art and eventually graduated from art school in 1997. She decided not to continue with her career and instead started training to play billiards.
Her father had also opened a billiards room opposite to the high school she used to attend. For six months, she decided to train hard. Initially, she learned how to play billiards, then she learned how to play snooker and, finally, nine-ball. Her journey was difficult initially because she did not have the means to travel comfortably. She would often go by train with her father, which used to be very crowded. She even fell sick at one point.
Her hard work and efforts were paying off. From the years 1998 to 2000, she was the Nine Ball tournament champion in China. Pan was only 16 years old when she won her first nine-ball tournament in 1998. Ever since then, Pan has been unstoppable. Her family moved to Shanghai in 2000. This was so that Xiaoting could be able to compete in more tournaments. She also became a part of the national billiards team. Her career was bright and secure.
What kicked her career off, however, was winning the first place in the 35th World women 9-Ball Championship in Osaka and Japan. However, in 2003, she could not go to Osaka again to defend her title because she was denied the visa to go. Her most significant victory was when she became the first Chinese player to win the World 9-Ball Championship in 2007 that was held in Taiwan.
